The Rolling Stone is a magazine that devotes its time to writing about topics such as music, politics, and pop culture. Rolling Stone was founded by Jann Wenner and Ralph Gleason. To start the magazine, Wenner had gotten a loan of 7,500 dollars from friends and family and sold the first copy for 25 cents-that would be $1.80 cents today. Jann Wenner decided to name the magazine Rolling Stone because of three influences: the song 'Rollin' Stone' by Muddy Walters, the famous rock band The Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan's song 'Like a Rolling Stone.' In the 70's, the magazine made an impact with their political aspects and emphasis on its political section. In the 80's it was mainly centered around music as it was a dominant force at that time and in the 1990's, the magazine faced criticism as its main focus shifted to pop culture so it could catch the attention of a younger audience. Recently, Rolling Stone has been featuring a well rounded mix of politics, music, and pop culture.
